SARS‑COV‑2
A BIT ABOUT SARS-COV-2
What makes it so infectious?
SARS-CoV-2 cell adhesion depends on the binding of the viral Spike protein’s S1 subunit to the ACE2 Cell receptor.
NRP1 NRP2 (Neuropilin) provide additional adhesion sites that improve viral entry and binding
TMPRSS2 (transmembrane serine protease 2). A nuance of this virus is the cleavage that happens at the S1/S2 junction. This mediates membrane fusion and cellular entry
The S1/S2 cleavage subunits are not present in SARS-CoV-1 making SARS-CoV-2 a more potent binding virus.
